Foundational Pieces of AB386

  • AB386 will create a Board of Licensed Certified Professional Midwives. This is a stand alone board, not an advisory committee. This Board will create regulation and rules, and establish systems for accountability for Nevada's LCPMs.

  • AB386 will protect breech, twins, and VBACs in the law.

  • AB386 will provide legal access to birth-related medications and devices for Nevada's LCPMs.

  • AB386 will open the opportunity for LCPMs to be able to accept Medicaid.

  • AB386 will allow LCPMs to work to their full scope in birthing centers.

  • AB386 requires all types of Nevada midwives attending births in the community setting to provide a disclosure form about the different types of midwives that practice in our state, to be signed by the client.

  • AB386 does not prevent unlicensed or uncertified midwives from continuing to practice. They would not be required to conform to State midwifery regulation, other than the requirement to present the same disclosure form to their clients to have signed.
