What is NACPM?

The National Association of Certified Professional Midwives (NACPM) is the membership organization specifically representing Certified Professional Midwives (CPM) in the United States. Certified Professional Midwives provide unique and critical access to normal physiologic birth, which profoundly benefits childbearing people and newborns. Founded in 2000, NACPM ensures a powerful and collective voice for Certified Professional Midwives. NACPM directs its influence toward improving outcomes for childbearing people and their infants, developing and strengthening the profession, and informing public policy with the values inherent in CPM care.

Vision

NACPM envisions a primary birth care system in our country where all birthing people access care through a midwife, where birth place is the choice of the family, and where all childbearing people and their babies have the same chance to be healthy.

Purpose

NACPM’s purpose is to be a powerful, collective voice for Certified Professional Midwives. We strengthen and support excellence in the profession and influence birth health policy to ensure that all childbearing people and babies have a healthy start.
